Building Tomorrow’s Workforce & Securing Lodging’s Future

Since 2003, almost $1.4 million has been expended through the Foundation’s workforce development and school-to-career programs, which encourage career interest in the lodging field. In the Skills, Tasks, and Results Training (START), a one-year program preparing both high school and workforce development based students to enter the industry, was adopted as the official hospitality training program of the National Jobs Corps. The program, which trains entry-level workers, welfare-to-work participants, in- and out-of-school youth, dislocated workers, and other populations with barriers to employment, is in 141 workforce training locations in 30 states.

The Lodging Management Program (LMP) is an advanced high school curriculum that immerses the student into the world of hospitality. This two year program introduces students to the lodging industry and teaches them management principles that will enable them to achieve success in a hospitality leadership role. The program has been implemented to more than 7,000 students enrolled in 680 high schools. The seventh annual national LMP Competition was held in April 2009 at the Marriott Airport Hotel in Orlando, FL.
